Gertrude Carrie Hatfield, 94, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Waldron Health and Rehab in Waldron.
She was born December 28, 1919, in Cynthiana, Kentucky, the daughter of George W. and Cordie M. (Sosbe) Jones. She married her husband of 72 years, Leo E. Hatfield, on March 10, 1938, and he preceded her in death on April 1, 2010.
Survivors include her son, Leo Wayne Hatfield of Shelbyville; daughter, Alice Louise Hughes of Westport; son-in-law, Dan Stanton of Edinburgh; grandchildren, Devonay Potter, Timothy Hughes, Russell Hatfield, Tamara Mudd, Desiree Coulston, Lori Nobbe and Dustin Hatfield; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Janet Lou Stanton; brothers, Cecil Jones, Denny Jones and George Jones; sister, Martha Perkins; grandson, Denny Hughes; and a great-grandson, Kyle Mudd.
Mrs. Hatfield retired from Admiral Corporation, with over 25 years of service. After retiring, she worked as a custodian at the Middle School.
She was a woman of many talents from making bridal gowns to carpentry.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
