Gladys M. Smith, 94, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Heritage House of Shelbyville. She was born November 3, 1923, in Greenup County, Kentucky, the daughter of Marion L. and Martha Bell (Ash) Adkins. On March 31, 1945, she married Dale Smith, and he preceded her in death on April 25, 1962. Gladys is survived by her daughter, Wanda Stader and husband, Larry, of Shelbyville; son, William “Bill” Smith and wife, Cindy, of Shelbyville; sister, Christine Self Branson and husband, Robert, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Bobby D. Smith and wife, Bianca, Kenneth Dale Stader and wife, Jodi, Kevin Roy Stader and wife, Shawn, and Joshua D. Smith; great-grandchildren, Chris Mosier and wife, Ashley, Chanee Merriman, Kaitlyn Stader, Chase Stader, Kylie Stader, Hailey Smith, Trinity Smith, Rhett Smith, Olivia Bullard, Hannah Johnson, Mercedes Waldschmidt, Christian Waldschmidt, Devin Waldschmidt and Kayliegh Collins; great-granchildren, Kenadi Mosier and Emmah Mosier; numerous nieces and nephews, including special niece, Judy Adkins Kuhn and husband, Joe, of Fountaintown. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Bobby Dale Smith; brothers, Virgil Adkins, Roscoe Adkins, Oscar Adkins, Talmadge Adkins, Herbert Adkins and Junior Adkins; and sister, Evaline Ray. Gladys was a member of Town and Country Christian Church and the Morristown American Legion Auxiliary. She formerly worked at International Furniture Company in Rushville, Danners in Shelbyville and Hallmark. Gladys loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and taking care of her family. She enjoyed play cards and board games. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Arlington East Hill Cemetery in Arlington.
