Gusta M. Drake, 98, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Ashford Place Health Campus.
Born July 25, 1910, in Shelby County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Addison and Hattie (Phillippe) Talkington. She married Wallace Cassady and he preceded her in death, then married Albert Drake and he also preceded her.
Survivors include grandchildren, Jay Cassady of Wabash and Jon Cassady of St. Thomas; step-daughter, Doris Payne of Lake-in-the-Hills, Illinois, Edward G. Drake of Williamsport and A. Wayne Drake of Cambridge City; nieces, Essie Mae Gardner of Jeffersonville, Dorothy Bowlby of Shelbyville and Cathy Sherman of Greenfield; nephews, Forest W. Talkington of McArthur, Ohio, Robert Talkington of Shelbyville, Paul Douglas of Flat Rock and Max Kelley of Waldron; and three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Charles Cassady; granddaughter, Jana Cassady; sisters, mable Gravely, Berniece Douglas and Bertha Kelley; brother, Claudis Talkington.
Mrs. Drake was a homemaker and retired from Shelbyville High School as a custodian.
She was a member of the Lewis Creek Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Drake graduated from Flat Rock High School.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Rev. Cliff Bunch officiating.
Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
