Harold Ray Hendrickson, 90, of Shelbyville passed away Monday, August 24, 2009, at Heritage House Convalescent Center.
Born May 5, 1919, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Cleo and Clara (Sandefur) Hendrickson. He married Gladys Redd, and she preceded him in death in 1973.
Survivors include his daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Brittain of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Gary (wife, Belinda) Cook of Fransico, Indiana, Vicky (husband, Robert) Bluemke of Rossville and John D. (wife, Cathy) Smith of Fall River, Mass.; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandsons.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Edna Mae Hilderbrand; and one great-grandson.
Mr. Hendrickson was a lifelong Shelbyville resident.
He had been a foreman at Great States.
Mr. Hendrickson served his country in World War II as an Army sergeant. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for outstanding and invaluable service to the country.
He had been a Sunday school teacher, deacon and bus driver at Shelbyville Baptist Temple, now known as Hope's Point, for several years.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Snyder Cemetery in Shelby County.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, Indiana.
