Harold Talbert Bass, 87, of Morristown died Monday, May 7, 2007, at Morristown Manor in Morristown.
Born Sept. 10, 1919, in Morristown, he was the son of Walter "Button" and Lelah (Talbert) Bass. He married Joyce Aline Hardin, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 1997.
Survivors include his sons, Kevin H. (wife, Janet) Bass of Kokomo, Jerry D. Bass and Marvin K. (wife, Mary) Bass, both of Bloomington; sisters, Ruth Long Carmony of Shelbyville and Lois Batton of Freeport; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Marie Pile of Shelbyville.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Bollato, Elizabeth "Sib" Richardson and Dorothy Ross; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Bass had co-owned a soil service and previously owned a milk route, both in Morristown, retiring in 1995.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Bass graduated in 1937 from Morristown High School, and was a member of the only basketball team to be undefeated.
He was a member of Morristown United Methodist Church. He was a life member of the Morristown Masonic Lodge and Morristown American Legion.
Mr. Bass formerly served on the Morristown School board.
He was a loving father and papaw and an avid Indiana University basketball fan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 p.m. Thursday at the Morristown United Methodist Church, 221 S. Washington St. in Morristown, with the Rev. Kenneth Wooden and Bill Farmer officiating.
Interment will be in Hanover Cemetery in Morristown, with military rites conducted by the Morristown American Legion.
