Harold Wayne Hill, 84, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015 at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.
He was born May 8, 1931, in Shelby County, the son of Ralph and Nettie (Truex) Hill. He married Bonnie Crafton on June 15, 1956, and she preceded him in death on November 30, 2000.
Harold is survived by his sons, Danny Hill of Freeport, Donald Hill, and Ralph Hill and wife, Cheryl, both of Shelbyville; daughter, Diana Meeks and husband, Ronald, of Shelbyville; sisters, Patricia Morgan of Shelbyville and Isabelle Baker of Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; twin sons, Jerry Hill and Larry Hill; daughter, Frances K. Hill; brother, Danny Hill; and sister, Mamie Bennett.
Harold graduated from Mount Auburn High School in 1949.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.
Harold was a welder at GE/Wellman for 15 years and Baker Boiler for 10 years, retiring in 1996.
He formerly attended Mount Gilead Baptist Church.
Harold was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post No. 70 and the Forty and Eight Club.
He enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, buck euchre and texas holdem.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the funeral home, with Rev. Bob Campbell officiating.
Interment will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County, with military graveside rites conducted by the local military committee.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post No. 70, 1125 Miller Avenue, Shelbyville, IN; Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1622 IN-44, Shelbyville, IN; or 40 & 8 Club, in care of the funeral home.
