Hazel Claire Rainey, 80, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 at her residence.
She was born March 16, 1934, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Jack and Helen (Comstock) Jenkins.
On May 23, 1958, she married her husband of 56 years, Gene Rainey.
Survivors include her husband of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Ernest Harley and Norman Jenkins.
Hazel graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1952.
She was a member of Los Lunas Baptist Church in Los Lunas, New Mexico.
Hazel was formerly a hair stylist.
While living in New Mexico, she volunteered at Meal on Wheels and The Animal Shelter.
Hazel loved all animals and had many throughout the years, most recently she had a dog, Rowdy, that recently preceded her in death.
A gathering of friends will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
