Helen Joan Grinstead, 88, of Waldron, formerly of Ocala, Florida, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Morristown Manor in Morristown.
She was born November 11, 1929, in Oaklandon, the daughter of Edgar and Ruby (Vess) Apple. In 1947, she married Robert C. Grinstead, and he preceded her in death in 1991.
Joan is survived by her son, Robert S. Grinstead and wife, Darlene, of Waldron; daughters, Sandra Grinstead-Nelson and husband, Ed, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Donna Oiler of Fort Wayne; brother Arthur Allen Apple and wife, Jeanette, of Las Vegas, Neveda; grandchildren, Dennis Rogers and wife, Vanessa, Dena Rogers and Mike, Melinda Slayton and husband, Fred, Jeffrey Leising and Lynn, Raymond Sherwood and wife, Julie, Ryan Grinstead and wife, Kate, and Jennifer Frye and husband, Steve; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Laura Pacey; and son-in-law, Lyle “Mac” Oiler.
Joan graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1947.
She was an avid reader.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Ocala, Florida.
