Hyacinth B. Chin Sang Kidman MD, 64, of Paradise Lake, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, in Indianapolis.
Born April 17, 1942, in Kingston, Jamaica, British West Indies, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Chin Sang. She married Dr. Howard Kidman in 1986, and he preceded her in death in 1998.
Survivors include one sister, Gloria (husband, Steve) Stedman; one brother, Winston Chin Sang; two nephews, Mark Polack and Roger Polack; cousin Dennis Lyn; and many extended family members in the United States, Canada and Jamaica.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Leonie (Lee).
Dr. Kidman, a former Shelbyville resident, was raised in Jamaica.
Her professional career included staff positions at the University of Toronto, University of Western Ontario and St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove; a founding partner with Dr. Paul Inlow of X-ray Physicians of Shelbyville; and she continued to practice general diagnostic radiology at Major Hospital until retiring in 2001.
Dr. Kidman received her MBBS degree in 1967 from the University College of the West Indies. She completed her internship and began her medical residency in diagnostic radiology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She was board certified in diagnostic radiology as well as nuclear medicine after completing a nuclear medicine fellowship at Toronto General Hospital in Toronto.
She took great interest in the well-being of the communities in which she lived, engaging in generous personal philanthropy. In 2000, she established the Chin Sang Kidman Scholarship for Shelby County high school students, as well as a fund to promote continuing medical education of the radiologic technologist at Major hospital. She encouraged and assisted many students here and abroad; and funded and arranged for the delivery of a mammogram machine for women's health care among the poor and underserved in Jamaica.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
