I. June Welage Grigsby

June 6, 1926 — April 28, 2009

I. June Welage Grigsby, 82, of Shelbyville died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital and Health Campus, Greenwood. Born June 6, 1926, in Greensburg, she was the daughter of Ernest Christian and Bessie (Gregory) Gilbert. She married Robert C. Welage, the father of her children and he preceded her in death on May 1, 1993. She married John E. Grigsby, and he survives. Other survivors include her son, Steven R. Welage of Greenfield; daughters, Lin Davis (husband, Rex Steffey) and Anita L. (husband, Garry) Reed, both of Shelbyville, Barbara A. (husband, Matt) Brown of Prince's Lakes and Cynthia J. (husband, Bret) Szabo of Bedford; grandchildren, Ted Welage, Katie Davis, Kelli McMains, Lori Asher, Dustan Reed, Zachary Brown, Audrey Brown, Dominic Szabo and Zoe Szaho; and seven great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Lloyd Gilbert; brother, Robert Christian; and sisters, Louise Clark, Betty Atwood and Margaret Alice Werking. Mrs. Grigsby was a homemaker. She graduated from Greensburg High School in 1944. Mrs. Grigsby attended First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Delta Theta Tau and Ladies Golf Association. Mrs. Grigsby enjoyed playing golf and bridge. She loved her graden, flowers, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Carmony-Ewing Chapel of Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, Indiana. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Morningstar officiating. Graveside rites 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Shelby Senior Services.
