Ina Fern McGuire

Ina Fern (Haehl) McGuire died July 31, 2009 at Towsley Village, Chelsea Retirement Center in Chelsea, Michigan. She was 88 years old. Born on July 29, 1921, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of J. Walter and Opal (Fuchs) Haehl. She married Cecil McGuire on August 14, 1959. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1976. Survivors include two sisters, Alta Long of Shelbyville and Reba McCain of Bengal, two step children, Gary (Kathi) McGuire of Bedford, Ky and Sheila Gaye (Wayne) McAlister of Carrollton, Ky; three step-grand children, Eric, Lindsay, and Shannon; 5 step great-grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her brother, Chez Haehl; step-grandson, Shawn McAlister; nephew, Jay Long; great-nephew, Jeremy Wright; and great-niece, Christa Haehl. Ina graduated from Waldron High School in 1939. She was employed with Indiana Bell in Shelbyville; McGuire Pipeline Construction, Columbus; and Goodyear Tire, Scottsboro, AL where she retired in 1986. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Scottsboro, AL. A lively woman, Ina enjoyed fitness walking, water skiing, line dancing, golfing, bowling, reading and playing cards. She traveled extensively. She loved entertaining family and friends at her beautiful home on the Tennessee River, where she lived for 30 years. She was an avid bird watcher and participated in bird counts for the Audubon Society. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Mary Lundgren officiating. Interment will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus. A celebration of life will be held for the family in August. The family thanks the wonderful staff at Towsley Village for the care and comfort they gave to Ina.
