Irene Hermesch, 86, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Major Hospital.
Born September 24, 1922, in Mingo County, W.Va., she was the daughter of Anthony Wayne and Ida (Ward) Hayton. She married Edgar F. Tomlin, and he preceded her in death. She married Forrest Hermesch on June 3, 1957, and he preceded her in death on August 26, 1977.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth Brad (wife, Elaine) Tomlin of Edinburgh; stepdaughters, Nancy Larrison and Carolyn Galloway; sister, Alice M. Corya of Butlerville and Zella Booth of Detroit, Mich.; grandchildren, Jaime, Kimberly and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Caleb, Macy, Carter and Briana; 12 nephews; and nine nieces, including Diana (husband, Douglas) Darby of Florida.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; son, Edgar Wayne Tomlin; five brothers; and three sisters.
Mrs. Hermesch's family moved to Indiana in 1932.
She was employed at KCL from 1953 until retiring in 1988.
Mrs. Hermesch graduated from Holton High School in Ripley County in 1941.
She was a member of Blue Ridge Christian Union Church and Christian Union Women's Fellowship.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Dennis Hirschauer officiating.
Interment will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Shelby County.
