Jack R. Meek, 51, of Lake Helen, Florida former Shelby County resident, passed Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Born May 22, 1956, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Bennie H. and May Rose (Badgley) Meek.
Survivors include three children, Ben Meek of Lakeland, Florida, Wendy Meek of Shelbyville, and Jack R. Meek Jr. of Orlando, Florida; sisters, Rosellen J. Meek of Lake Helen, Florida, and Lori Cox of Franklin; a brother, Benjie L. Meek of Sedalia, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Peyton Coffee and Parker Coffee.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Meek had lived in Florida for many years.
He had been employed as supervisor of a solar insulation company, All-Solar Energy, Inc., in Florida. Prior to that, he had been employed by A & J Guttering and KCL Corp. in Shelbyville. He also had been a union carpenter.
Mr. Meek was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran, serving from 1973 to 1977.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was a former girls' softball coach for the Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Department.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, at 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Mark Mason officiating.
Burial will be at Miller Cemetery.
