Jack W. Sanders, 93, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.
He was born June 6, 1921, in Shelbyville, the son of Perce G. and Hazel (Winkles) Sanders. On May 29, 1946, he married his wife of 69 years, Florine Weintraut, and she survives.
Jack is also survived by his daughters, Jan Caton and husband, John, and Ann Lay and husband, Paul, both of Shelbyville; and grandchildren, Lori Law and husband, David, Andy Lay and wife, Diana, Meghan Murali and husband, Arun and Matthew Caton and wife, Jamie. He was also the joy of his eight great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Jane Adler.
Jack was a life-long resident of Shelbyville and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1939.
He served his country in the United States Army stationed abroad in World War II.
Jack worked in the family business prior to starting Sanders Interiors, Inc. with Florine. The firm specialized in interior design and fine furnishings and accessories for over 70 years. Jack was widely known in the community for his taste and service.
He was genuinely appreciated by all as a true gentleman.
Jack was a member of the Shelbyville Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks and the American Legion.
He enjoyed the company of his many friends in the “Friday Lunch Bunch.”
Jack was a proficient and enthusiastic athlete and played winning tennis throughout his life.
Private services are pending at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
