Jackie Mason “Jack” Higginbotham Sr., 81, of Fairland passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.
He was born November 22, 1938, in Wayne County, Kentucky. He was one of thirteen children born to James E. and Maude Kate (Walters) Higginbotham. On September 23, 1961, he married Carolyn Sue “Carol” Rigney, and she preceded him in death on August 25, 2015.
Jack is survived by his sons, Tony Higginbotham and wife, Karen, of Greensburg, and Jack Higginbotham Jr. of Fairland; grandson, Ryan Higginbotham of Greensburg; sisters, Barbara Black and Bertha Hurt, both of Monticello, Kentucky, and Kathryn Kelly of Dayton, Ohio; a special friend, Sandy Craigmiles of Greenwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to Carol, Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and nine brothers and sisters.
Jack was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
He worked at the Indianapolis Foundry of the Chrysler Corporation for 34 years. After retirement he worked at Meijers in Southport for ten years.
Jack was a member of the UAW (retiree).
He enjoyed woodworking, watching the birds on his bird feeders, watching old westerns, gardening and all types of racing.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Please follow the current COVID-19 guidelines on social distancing.
Private family services will be observed.
Interment will be at London Cemetery in Shelby County.
