Jacqueline Lee "Jackie" Meloy, 86, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, September 11, 2008, at Ashford Place Health Campus.
Born July 18, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of Marvin Lee and Ina (Keith) Blake. She married William R. Meloy on August 8, 1947, and he preceded her in death on August 13, 1983.
Survivors include her son, Michael Paul (wife, Kathy) Meloy of Coatesville; daughter, Candace (husband, Steven) Brown of Lewis Center, Ohio; grandchildren, Ryan Brown, Heather Meloy and Angela Meloy; and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Conner and Austin.
She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Meloy was director of Shelby County United Fund (SCUFFY) from 1976 to 1993 and had been a substitute teacher for Shelbyville Central Schools.
She served on the boards of Shelby Senior Services and Shelby Senior Services Day Care.
Mrs. Meloy was a volunteer with Shelby Senior Services, Red Cross and Major Hospital Guild and had been a Girl Scout leader. In 2002, she served as a volunteer representative on the Council on Aging.
She received the Outstanding Citizen of the Year award in 1995.
Mrs. Meloy earned an associate's degree from Milliken University, where was a member of Pi Beta Phi and the Alumni Club.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Catherine Merril Circle, Elks Club, Women's Club and Tri Kappa Sorority.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jerry Kuyk officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
