James E. Pleak Sr., 59, of Shelbyville passed away Saturday, November 24, 2007.
Born January 11, 1948, in Fond du Lac, Wis., he was the son of William R. and Ida L. (Little) Pleak. He married Mary Ellen Callahan on January 27, 1968, and she also passed away on Saturday.
Survivors include his son,, James Pleak II of Shelbyville; and granddaughter, Maureen Lee of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kimberly Pleak-Lee, also passed away Saturday; brother, William R. Pleak; and sister, Joanne (Pleak) Trout.
Mr. Pleak was an entrepreneur and had owned several supermarkets, including Western Supermarket, and then the Liquor Cabinet Inc., retiring in March of 2007. He previously was a welder for General Electric Co.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Mr. Pleak graduated from St. Paul High School in 1967.
He was the current commander of the American Legion Post No. 70 and a member of the Milroy Masonic Lodge. He was a 32nd degree Mason.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with Masonic and Eastern Star rites at 9 p.m., Thursday; and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., is entrusted with the services.
