James Louis "Jim" Peck, Jr. 66, of Shelbyville passed away July 15, 2007 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
He was born July 26, 1940 to James Louis Peck Sr. and Elizabeth Fallain Peck in Terre Haute, IN. He married M. Janet Klain on June 20, 1970.
Mr. Peck was the superintendent of Shelbyville Schools from 1993 to 2005, at which time he retired. Prior to retiring he was also superintendent at Bedford (North Lawrence Community Schools) from 1987 to 1993. While at Greencastle Community Schools from 1975 to 1987 he was a teacher, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. From 1968 to 1975 at Schulte High School in Terre Haute, IN he was athletic director of varsity basketball and assistant baseball coach. From 1965 to 1968 he was baseball coach and assistant basketball coach at North Central High School in Farmersburg, IN.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Kiwana's in Greencastle. He was an avid sports fan and civil war enthusiast. He was a 1958 graduate of Schulte High School in Terre Haute, Indiana and a 1964 graduate of Indiana State University with a B.S., M.S. and an E.D.S.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife M. Janet Klain Peck of Shelbyville, IN; one daughter Jennifer (husband, Adam) Vassar of Shelbyville, IN; one son James Fallain Peck of Shelbyville, IN; one grandson Alex Vassar and one granddaughter Hannah Vasser; one brother John (wife, Margaret) Peck of Chicago, IL; nine nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shelbyville, IN.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Freeman Family Funeral Home Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel.
