James Leroy "Jim" Monroe, 60 of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Major Hospital.
Born May 29, 1949 in Shelbyville, he was the son of Earl L. and Neoma O. (Yeley) Monroe.
Survivors include his children; Travis Monroe of Shelbyville, James L. "Jamie" (wife, Melanie) Monroe II of Edinburgh, April Swift of Fairland and Amber Hupp of Hope; grandchildren, Kaleb Grant Holler Monroe, Brooklynn Monroe, Katelynn Monroe, Mason Monroe, Maverick Monroe, Wyatt Monroe and Dustin Hupp; special friends, Karen J. Monroe Petro of Edinburgh (mother of Jamie and Travis), Nick and Pat Schaf of Shelbyville, Pamela Hupp Monroe of Flat Rock, Gregg LeMasters and Phil Waltz, both of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Adam Hupp.
Mr. Monroe was a lifelong resident of Shelby County.
He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War, being discharged in 1969.
Mr. Monroe graduated from Indiana Academy in 1967.
He was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church and attended Crossroad Community Church; he was also a member of American Legion Post #70 in Shelbyville and the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Monroe loved his grandchildren and taking them fishing; family was his main priority and he was a caretaker of many people during his life.
He also enjoyed flying and working with and showing horses.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Andy Lee officiating.
Interment will be in Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
