Jane Alexander, 88, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at Major Hospital.
Born July 14, 1917, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Lucille (Harrison) Andrews. She married Orville P. Alexander on Sept. 20, 1941, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1982.
Survivors include three sons, John R. Alexander of Shelbyville, Jerry (wife, Nancy) Alexander of Hawthorn Woods, Ill., and William H. "Bill" (wife, Gale) Alexander of Jasper; one sister, Mary Sanders of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Scott Alexander, Karen (husband, Arus) Buntinas, Tim Alexander, Debbie Alexander and Jay Alexander; and two great-grandchildren, Spencer Alexander and Zachery Alexander.
Mrs. Alexander was a lifelong Shelbyville resident.
She had been a sales representative for Scholastic Magazine, in Central Indiana, and a math tutor for Shelby Central Schools.
Mrs. Alexander graduated in 1935 from Shelbyville High School.
She had been active in Marion Township Parent-Teacher Association as a volunteer and officer and also served as an officer in the Indiana Parent-Teacher Association.
Mrs. Alexander was a member of First Christian Church, where she was a former board member and elder.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Arlene Whitfield officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
