Margie Janet Douglass, 79, of Shelbyville died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at her home.
Born Sept. 26, 1927, in Madison, she was the daughter of Sidney and Majorie (Hancock) Cofield. She married Ralph Douglass Jr. on Sept. 7, 1952, and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan (husband, Dennis) Wayman of Shelbyville; one brother, George S. "Bud" (wife, Barbara) Cofield of Fairfield, Conn.; one sister, Marian Cofield McIntire (husband, Bud) Winslow of Granbury, Texas; and one granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Snapp of Shelbyville.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bruce Douglass; and one sister, Carolyn Cofield Neal.
Mrs. Douglass had been a teacher at the former Addison Township School and retired as a librarian at Waldron High School.
She was a volunteer at Major Hospital.
Mrs. Douglass graduated in 1945 from Madison High School, and from the University of Cincinnati, and received a master's degree from Butler University. She also had attended Indiana University.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa Kappa Kappa and Chi Omega sororities, Daughters of the American Revolution, Shelby County Historical Society, Indiana Historical Society, Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the Shelbyville-Shelby County Public Library Board.
Mrs. Douglass enjoyed playing bridge and going to the symphony with friends, and she loved to travel.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary W. Huffman officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
