Janet Eileen Allen, 56, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital and Health Centers in Indianapolis.
She was born January 30, 1957, in Kendallville, to Robert A. and Patricia Eileen (Harvey) Sherer. She married Steven G. Allen on August 13, 1983, and he survives.
Other survivors include her father and stepmother, Robert (wife, Bonnie) Sherer of Fort Wayne; daughter, Megan Allen of Shelbyville; son, Nicholas Allen of Shelbyville; brothers, Larry (wife, Debbie) Sherer of Fort Wayne, Tom (wife, Sue) Sherer of Kendallville, Roger Sherer of Bluffton and Bob Sherer of Hollywood, California.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Janet graduated from East Noble High School in 1975. In 1979 she graduated from Ball State University with a bachelor’s of science in business. She continued her education, receiving her masters in education from Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Anne’s Altar Society and Epsilon Sigma Phi.
Janet began her career as an Extension Educator with Purdue Extension Service in October of 1979 in Sullivan County, later she worked in Allen County and Shelby County, and then retired April 1, 2012 as the Southwest Indiana District Director.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. with the rosary recited at 3 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St. in Shelbyville, with Father Aaron Pfaff officiating.
Interment will be in Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, Indiana.
