Janet Lawsenne Pence, 73, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, August 16, 2009, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born October 13, 1935, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Lawson and Dorothy (Floyd) Stine. She married Robert E. "Bob" Pence on July 6, 1957, and he preceded her in death on February 11, 2009.
Survivors include her daughters, Angie E. (husband, Stevie) Washington of Shelbyville and Lisa E. (husband, Kevin) Smith of Greenfield; son, Jed Robert (wife, Michelle) Pence of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Latosha K. Pence, Zachary D. Washington and Hannah L. Washington; great-grandchildren, Taylia D. Jackson and Eric N. Brown III; half brother, Stephen Keith of Indianapolis; niece, Susan (husband, Michael) Bova of Columbus, Ohio; nephews, D. Lawson (wife, Kim) Stine of Columbus; and cousins, Suzanne Rosborough, Patricia, and Linda Howery.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David Stine.
Mrs. Pence was a lifelong Shelby County resident.
She had been a sales and customer service representative at Comcast, a radio announcer for WSVL, and a switchboard operator at Major Hospital.
Mrs. Pence graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1954.
She taught vacation Bible school and Sunday school and was a secretary at First Baptist Church and sang in the chori at First Baptist and First Methodist churches.
Mrs. Pence enjoyed Big Band and swing dancing and loved jazz music and gardening.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
