Janet Lois (Law) Hartman, 83, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.
She was born March 24, 1934, in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of James Robert and Geraldine I. (Toles) Law. On August 2, 1953, she married her husband of 63 years, Ray Hasler Hartman, and he survives.
Janet is also survived by her son, James D. Hartman of Shelbyville; daughter, Susan Scales and husband, David, of Pensacola, Florida; brother, James R. Law and wife, Kathy, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Christopher A. Scales and wife, Kristen, and Candice L. Scales, all of Pensacola, Florida; and great-grandson, Brayden Scales.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Janet graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1952, and attended Franklin College for one year.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Janet was formerly employed in the Secretary of State office from 1952 to 1953. She worked at the Shelbyville Sewage Department from 1979 to 1987. Janet served as Addison Township Assessor for four years from 1990 to 1994, and worked in the Shelby County Assessor’s office from 1995 to 1999.
She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter AL and was previously a member of Tri Kappa. Sorority.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral homes, with Rev. Bill Horner officiating.
Private graveside rites will be conducted.
