Janice Dean Richmond

Janice Richmond, 84, of Flat Rock passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Waldron Health and Rehab in Waldron. Born May 21, 1926, in Frankfort, she was the daughter of Major Thomas and Ruth Elizabeth (Hoehn) Jester. She married Donald Leon Richmond in 1950, and he preceded her in death on September 20, 1964. Survivors include her daughters, Ruth (husband, Gregg) Larrison of Tombstone, Arizona and Donna Lee Richmond of Shelbyville; sons, John (wife, April) Richmond and Jester "Jes" (wife, Vicky) Richmond, both of Shelbyville, William "Bill" Richmond of Franklin and Thomas "Tom" (wife, Linda) Richmond of Norristown; grandchildren, Tara (husband, John) Goode, Katie Rush, Cole Dickmann, Casey Dickmann, Cord Dickmann, Matthew (wife, Danielle) Richmond, Elizabeth (husband, John) Hamner, Heather (husband, Bruce) Ramsey, Talya Jones, Eugene Jones and Albert Jones; 18 great-grandchildren and her dogs, J.J. and Buster Brown. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald Arthur Richmond; and brother, Richard "Dick" Jester and Anthony "Tony" Jester. A lifelong resident of Shelby County, Mrs. Richmond graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1944 and attended University of Miami (Florida), where she was a member of Sigma Lambda Chi Sorority. Mrs. Richmond was the former owner of Richmond's Antiques and a real estate agent and broker at Jester Realty. She also served on the board of directors of the Shelbyville Boys Club for several years. Mrs. Richmond served on the committee to save the Delta Queen Steamboat, and in her later years she enjoyed steamboating on the inland waterways. She enjoyed researching antiques and Shelby County history. She loved spending time with her family and the numerous pets she rescued throughout the years and leaves behind her beloved dogs, J.J. and Buster Brown. Mrs. Richmond attended the First United Methodist Church. A gathering of friends will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday, March 25, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Memorial contributions may be made to Shelbyville Boys Club, 710 South Miller Street, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176 or Shelbyville-Shelby County Humane Society, 705 Hale Road, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
