Janice Marie Blanchard

Janice Marie Blanchard, 70, of Mandeville, Louisiana, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017 at her residence. She was born October 5, 1946, in Troy, New York, the daughter of John J. and Jeannette V. (Mossey) Nolan. She married Thomas A. Blanchard, and he preceded her in death on April 10, 2011. Janice is survived by her daughter, Laura E. Rutan Bennett and husband, Jeff, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; son, Paul E. Rutan of Greensburg; brother, John Nolan and wife, Sharon, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; sisters, Dianne Dickson and husband, Richard of Mandeville, and Mary Liz Hyer and husband, Thomas, of Grovetown, Georgia; grandchildren, Christian Rutan Woods, Morgan Rutan Woods, Collin Bennett, Alex Rutan and Trevor Rutan; great-grandchild, Rhylan Mazzola; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by husband Dr. Larry M. Wadsworth in 1994 and her father. Janice graduated from Columbus High School in 1964 and received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Indiana University. She was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church, and had also attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. Janice devoted her life to nursing and was formerly the Director of Nursing at Waldron Healthcare and was one of the founding nurses at Our Hospice in Columbus. She was a member of various nursing associations and boards and volunteered her time with numerous organizations. Janice enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and her grandchildren were the light of her life. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with the rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4218 E. Michigan Road in Shelbyville. Interment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 S. 17th St., Columbus, Indiana 47201 or Benesse Oncology Center, 2455 Intelliplex Drive, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
