Jay Robert Long, 60, of Shelbyville passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2008.
Born January 27, 1948, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Robert and Alta Mae (Haehl) Long.
Survivors include his mother of Shelbyville; daughter, Lori L. Pettis of Shelbyville; son, Andy (wife, Rosemary) Long of Shelbyville; sisters, Jacquelyn (husband, William) Nickel of Florissant, Colorado, and Jolinda (husband, Reggie) Isley of Flat Rock; grandchildren, Macy Pettis, Leah Long and Malcolm Long, all of Shelbyville; nieces, Dayna Isley of Boston, Mass., and Alison Graham of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; nephew, Jake Isley of Steamboat Springs; fiance, Sue Penrose of Shelbyville; and close friend and mother of his children, Linda Schneeman of Cincinnati, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his father and nephew, Sg. Jeremy Wright.
Mr. Long was a farmer and the owner and operator of Long Services.
He graduated from Waldron High School in 1966 and from Vincennes University in 1968, specializing in auto mechanics.
Mr. Long was a member of Zion United Church of Christ.
He loved his grandchildren, trucking and rock and roll trivia.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., and from 10 to 11 a.m Monday at Zion United Church of Christ, 7025 E. 100 N.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Interment will be in Zion Cemetery in Shelby County.
