Jerry D. Schmalfeldt

Jerry D. Schmalfeldt, 67, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Major Hospital. Born May 28, 1944, in Connersville, Indiana, he was the son of Hubert and Ada (White) Schmalfeldt. He married Pam Morgan on June 4, 1964, and she survives. Other survivors include his mother of Mooresville; daughters, Rhonda Schmalfeldt of Shelbyville and Lora Schmalfeldt of Indianapolis; son, Derek (wife, Karen) Schmalfeldt of Anderson; brother, Jack (wife, Sherran) Schmalfeldt of Plainfield, Jeff (wife, Patty) Schmalfeldt of Four Oaks, North Carolina and Jay (wife, Molly) Schmalfeldt of San Antonio, Tx; sisters, Jill (husband, Greg) Olar of Monrovia and Jennifer (husband, Daryl) Hoyt of Martinsburg, West Virginia; grandsons, Jonah Phillips and Joshua Schmalfeldt; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. Mr. Schmalfeldt was formerly employed at D & M Manufacturing in Connersville for 30 years; later he was the mail and supply clerk for the Department of Homeland Security. He enjoyed golf, baseball card collecting and photography. Mr. Schmalfeldt was a member of UAW Local No. 151. He attended Indiana Academy in Cicero. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 7 pm, Tuesday at the funeral home, with Elder David Tolle officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 6415 Castleway West Drive, Suite 114, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250.
