Jerry Eugene Smith, 71, a lifelong resident of Shelbyville passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital and Health Centers in Indianapolis.
Born August 26, 1941 in Shelbyville, he was the son of Raymond Oliver and Mary Rose (Cotton) Smith. He was a loving husband to his wife of 49 years, Tyna Sandefur, whom he married on September 22, 1963 at the Evangelical United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Tyna Smith of Shelbyville; his sons, Scott (wife, Michelle) Smith, Dustin (wife, Leann) Smith and Tyler (wife, Angie) Smith, all of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Morgan Smith and Mitchell Smith; and mother-in-law, Mary Hill of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don R. Smith, Junior Smith, Jack Smith and Dale Smith; and sisters, Delores Willison, Louise Wetter and Betty Sweany.
Jerry graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1959.
He was an avid Shelbyville High School sports fan. He coached all three of his sons in Little League baseball and played Adult League softball with them. He was a NASCAR fan, following #17.
Jerry collected Borden Dairy memorabilia and like to go antiquing.
He delivered milk for Spears Dairy for 14 years and recently retired in 2010 as a Pipe fitter for Indiana Gas Company, after 33 years of service.
Jerry also leaves behind his dog, Matty, who he faithfully walked throughout town everyday meeting and greeting many friends along the way.
He was a wonderfully devoted and loving husband, father and papa.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
