Jerry Wayne Burton, 52, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at his residence.
Born April 11, 1959, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Kenneth Gene Burton and Marsha (Stiers) Guffey. He married Vanessa Palmer on November 2, 1986, and she survives.
Other survivors include his father Kenneth (wife, Donna) Burton of Shelbyville; mother, Marsha Guffey of Spiceland; sons, Travis Burton of Shelbyville and Frankie Burton of Adams; daughter, Amber Burton of Shelbyville; Todd Baatz and Joshua (wife, Debbie) Baatz, raised as his own sons, both of Shelbyville; sisters; Sharon (husband, Kelly) West of Seymour, Renee (husband Jerry) Palmer of Waldron, Jewell Martini, and Lora Bruner, Christy (husband, Billy) Glover and Linda (husband, Richard Aulby, all of Shelbyville; stepsisters, Rhonda Childers and Linda Jones, both of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Tyler Baatz, Makayla Baatz, Mackenzie Burton, Landan Burton, Gabby Boyd, Ethan Burton, Jessica Baatz, Zackry Burton, Sara Baatz, Lillian Baatz, Andrew Burton, Ryan Baatz, Ruby Baatz and Logan Vandegrift; and one grandson yet to arrive, Quinton Wayne Michael Burton; sisters-in-law, Kay (husband, Mark) Settles of Pleasantview, Kelly (husband, Bob) Padon of Connecticut and Patty (husband, Donald) Beals of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Jewell Burton, who raised him; grandfather, Esther Burton; brother, Kenneth Eugene Burton; and mother-in-law, Mary Anna Palmer.
Mr. Burton was a lifelong Shelbyville resident.
On December 1, 2010, after 32 years of service, he took a medical retirement from Knauf Insulation after a hard-fought battle with cancer, diagnosed on June 3, 2010.
He was a member of Moose Lodge No. 2118, Eagles Aerie Lodge No. 766 and U.A.W. Local No. 32.
Mr. Burton enjoyed building sand rails and three wheelers. His passion for the past 10 years has been drag racing at the Bean Blossom racetrack.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Friday, May 20, 2011 and from 1 to 3 pm, Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 3 pm, Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Ben Lopossa officiating.
A committal services and entombment will be at 3 pm, Monday, May 23, 2011 at Forest Hill Cemetery, 704 Morris Ave.
