Joan Edith (Bradbury) Wooden, 89, passed away on January 4, 2009 at Waldron Health Care Center, Waldron, Indiana. Born June 24,1919 in Tottenham, England, she was the daughter of Henry and Edith (Stevens) Bradbury. She married her husband Bert L. Wooden on January 6, 1945, and he preceded her in death on December 12, 1982. Mrs. Wooden met her husband in London, England where he was stationed during World War II in the United States Army. They were married in England, and after the war Mrs. Wooden moved to, and resided with, her husband in Stinesville, Indiana for 36 years. She became a naturalized citizen on June 15, 1949. Both she and her husband were active members of the Stinesville community - including the Stinesville Baptist Church. She retired from the Bloomington Hospital after 20 years of working in the Linen Services Department. Mrs. Wooden had been a resident in Shelbyville, Indiana since 1982. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville where she had served as a Deaconess. Survivors include her daughters Ann Wooden of Star City, Indiana, Brenda (and son-in-law Bill) Frye of Shelbyville, Indiana, grandson Zachary Frye of Orlando, Florida, nephew David Rowlands of London, England, and several nieces and nephews in the United States. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and her parents. Visitation will be at the Carmony-Ewing Chapel, Freeman Family Funeral Home on January 7, 2009 from 9:00 - 11:00 with services following at 11:00. Family gravesite services will then be conducted at the Chambersville Cemetery, Spencer, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 27 West Broadway Street, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
