Joan Margaret Sanders, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.
She was born June 20, 1928, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Lester L. and Edna F. (Philips) Beaver. On July 26, 1946, she married her husband of 60 years, Richard P. Sanders, and he preceded her in death on December 7, 2006.
Joan is survived by her daughters, Rebecca J. “Becky” Fletcher and husband, John, of Beech Grove and Cynthia K. “Cyndy” Heck of Morristown; brothers, Lester L. Beaver and wife, Norma, of Greenwood and J. Phillip Beaver of French Lick; sister-in-law, Mary Hoss of Greenfield; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Shirley Haymaker, Mary Gaubert and Grace Rabin; son-in-law, Michael Heck and granddaughter, Lisa Heck.
Joan graduated from Warren Central High School in 1946.
She was very active in church activities and enjoyed attending bible study classes.
Joan also enjoyed playing cards with her friends and camping.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home, Stirling Gerber Chapel, 5950 E. Thompson Road in Indianapolis.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at the funeral home, with Dan Vernon officiating.
Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Johnson County.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
