Jocelyn Jean Wickens, 75, of Powells Point, N.C., died Monday, March 6, 2006, at Norfolk General Hospital, in Norfolk, Va.
Born March 6, 1931, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of the late Melvell A. and Lucretia Mae (Henry) Wasson. She married Albert Emmett Wickens Jr., in April of 1951, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 2004.
Survivors include one daughter, Paula W. Varmette of Chesapeake, Va.; two sons, Jay B. (wife, Karyn) Wickens of Powells Point and Jeffrey M. Wickens of Chesapeake; one brother, Frank A. (wife, Deloris) Wasson of Yorktown; six grandchildren, Jimmy Lea, Heather Ausley, Brian J. Wickens, Daniel Wickens, Matthew J. Wickens and Nicole Wickens; and five great-grandchildren, Makayla Mae Lea, Rebecca Noel Lea, Bethany Ausley, David Ausley and Lexi Ausley.
Mrs. Wickens had lived in Virginia from 1961 until moving to Powells Point in 1986.
She was employed in civil service for 23 years. She first worked at naval supply then as a supervisor of personal records of naval operations at the dispensary in Norfolk. She retired in 1982 as the commander?s secretary at Ociana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach, Va.
Mrs. Wickens graduated from Shelbyville High School and attended Indiana University and Butler University.
She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as the current secretary of the local chapter in Powells Point.
No visitation is planned.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Forest Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. James Farnsley officiating.
