Joel Harrison "Harry" Bayless

Joel Harrison "Harry" Bayless, 82, of Fairland passed away Friday, June 5, 2009 at Kindred Hospital Indianapolis South. Born August 19, 1926 in Geneva, he was the son of Roy and Missouri (Bentley) Bayless. He married F. Lavinna Carpenter on April 16, 1948, and she survives. They had celebrated 61 years together. Other survivors include daughters, Machelle Good of Fairland and Jennifer Bayless of Bethseda, Maryland; son, Joel G. Bayless of Gilbert, Arizona; sister, Lois M. Bayless of Shelbyville and twin brother James Richard (wife, Georgia) Bayless of Glenwood. He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters. Mr. Bayless was employed at Western Electric in Indianapolis for 35 years, Audio Sears in New York for 11 years, retiring in 1997. He was a veteran of the US Army, last serving in 1947 in the Korean War. Mr. Bayless graduated from Manilla High School in 1944, and attended Tri-State College. He was a member of New Life Methodist Church in Fairland and the Telephone Pioneers Club of America. Mr. Bayless enjoyed woodworking and was an avid reader of Western novels. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Randall Slaven officiating. Interment will be in East Hill Cemetery in Rushville.
