John H. Curran

John H. Curran, 86, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, March 25, 2007, at Ashford Place Health Campus. Born April 15, 1920, in Indianapolis, he was the son of John B. and Lorena Mae (Hottel) Curran. He married Doris E. Tuttle on April 16, 1944, and she survives. Other survivors include Jane Mary Curran of Asheville, N.C., and a niece, Marilyn Crowley of Maine. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Curran had lived in Shelbyville since 1991, moving from a Rush County farm, where he had lived since 1937. He retired in 1982 from the former Curran-Moore Insurance Agency. Mr. Curran was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He graduated in 1938 from Milroy High School and from Indiana University School of Business in 1942. Mr. Curran was a member of First Presbyterian Church; American Legion Post No. 70, where he had served as a past commander; Waldron Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 217, a 50-year-member; and a life member of Shelbyville Elks Lodge. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Carmony-Ewing Broadway Chapel, Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 232 W. Broadway St. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, with the Rev. Gary Huffman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana University Alumni Association, DeVault Alumni Center, 1000 E. 17th St., Bloomington, IN 47408, or to Hospice of Shelby County, 110 S.
