John J. Beyer, Jr., 89, of St. Paul passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011 at his son and daughter-in-law's residence in Geneva.
Born May 5, 1921, in Shelby County, he was the son of John J. and Bertha (Runnebohm) Beyer. He married Betty E. Cunningham on September 2, 1944, and she preceded him in death on October 18, 1993.
Survivors include sons, Stephan Alois (wife, Shirley) Beyer of Prescott, Thomas E. (wife, Mary) Beyer of Geneva, Michael J. Beyer of Shelbyville and Timothy S. Beyer of Greensburg; daughters, Alice A. Bottorff of Shelbyville and Rose Mary Sheedy of Elwood; sisters, Clara (husband, Kenneth) Winkler and Norma (husband, Warren) Browning, both of Shelbyville, and Elizabeth (husband, Jack) Hewitt of Waldron; brothers, James (wife, Rose) Beyer of Shelbyville and Walter Beyer of Texas; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Paul David Beyer; sister, Charlene Beyer; and brothers, Robert Beyer, Daniel Beyer and Charles Beyer.
Mr. Beyer had farmed in Liberty Township since 1940. He also was a former sexton for St. Vincent's Cemetery.
He was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church, where he served on the parish council and Knights of Columbus Council No. 822; Blue River Sportsman Club; the Shelby County Council on Aging; and was past president of the Waldron chapter of the FFA Advisory Council.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent Catholic Church, 4218 E. Michigan Road, with Father Paul Landwerlen officiating.
Interment will be in St. Vincent Cemetery.
