John Kieven Shaw, (79) a life long resident of Hancock County, died January 13, 2018. John was residing in the Sugar Creek Nursing Home at the time of his death.
He was born on August 27, 1938, and reared in New Palestine, Indiana and graduated from New Palestine High School in 1956. Throughout his high school years, John worked in construction building several houses in the area. He saved the money he earned to help pay his way through The Chicago Technological Institute of Illinois where he earned his degrees in architectural and civil engineering in 1960. After graduation, John was employed by the state of Indiana as a civil engineer constructing roads and bridges.
He leaves behind two brothers, Jerrel K Shaw (Delia) of Guadalajara, Mexico, David C. Shaw (Lynn) of Port Charlotte, Florida; and two sisters, Ruth Ann Kunnuk of Anchorage, Alaska and Connie E. Scott (John Raymond) of Greenfield, Indiana.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Clayton Shaw of New Palestine; his brother, James K. Shaw; and sister, Karen Gee.
John will be remembered by his family as a man who took satisfaction in helping others who were financially in need and by his sharp wit and great sense of humor.
The family would especially like to thank their cousin, Kris Meltzer of Shelbyville, for overseeing all of the arrangements for John’s well being throughout his years of illness.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine, at a later date.
