John William VanWay, 82, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, in Whittier, North Carolina.
He was born February 7, 1936, in Shelbyville, the son of Moris and Helen VanWay.
John is survived by his wife, Donna Fleming; son, Kevin (Suanne) and daughters, Kim Johnson and Amy (Steve) Skotzko; sister, Jane Anne St.Hill; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
After graduating from Shelbyville High School, John received a degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University and a Master of Business Administration from Indiana University.
His career was mostly with Cummins Engine Company in their engineering testing services.
He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Masonic Lodge of Shelbyville.
He enjoyed boating as a senior pilot with the U.S. Power Squadron, and his many other hobbies included playing bridge, photography, and travel.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on Thursday, October 11 at 2 p.m., followed by a reception for family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville on Monday, October 15, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
