Jonathan Paul Smith

December 25, 1967 — September 1, 2015

Jonathan Paul Smith, 47, of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015 at IU North Hospital. He was born Dec. 25, 1967, to Norman and Barbara Smith. He was preceded in death by his father. Jonathan was the brother of Kathleen Miller (husband Chuck) and Lisa Miller (husband Howard) both of Shelbyville, and “Uncle Jon” to many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his very special friend and care-giver, Tunde (Mr. Sunny) Akinbobloa and members of his group home family: Kathy, Edna, Kevin J, Kevin C, Lloyd, Michael and Charles as well as several loving staff members. Jonathan lived at home and attended the Charlie Brown School in Shelbyville in his early years. At the age of five, he moved to Shepherds Home and School in Union Grove, Wisconsin where he grew up learning to love the Lord. Most recently he had lived in Indianapolis. Jonathan’s child like faith, infectious smile and ability to find joy in the simplest things in life, was an inspiration to all he came in contact with. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015 at New Life United Methodist Church, 6145 North 400 West, Fairland, Indiana 46126. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:30 led by Pastor Ben Biggs. A private graveside service will be held at London Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Freeman Family Funeral Homes / Jonathan Smith Memorial Fund, that will provide special outings for Jonathan’s group home family.
