Joseph F. “Joe” Collins, 76, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
He was born February 29 1940, in New York, the son of Joseph F. and Bridget (Corrigan) Collins. On August 22, 1970, he married his wife of 45 years, Brooke Scott, and she survives.
Joe is also survived by his daughter, Abigail Collins of Shelbyville; brothers, James Collins and wife, Pam, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Patrick Collins and wife, Jenny, of San Diego, California; sisters, Mary Gordon, Veronica Delaney and Kathleen Beckerson, all of San Diego; grandson, Finian Goode-Collins; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Joe graduated from Saint Augustine High School in 1958, and University of San Diego.
He was the general manager of J.G. DePrez and Co. for 20 years, and as a salesman for Leyman Manufacturing Co. in Cincinnati for 8 years, retiring in 2001.
Joe was a former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks and Sertoma.
He was a sports enthusiasts, especially golf.
Joe was instrumental in the creation of the Blue River Festival and served as one of the first directors.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the funeral home.
