Joseph “Hoa” Van Dao, 83, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.
Hoa was born January 1, 1930, in Hanom, Vietnam, the son of Binh Dao and Hau Nguyen. He married Judy Bass on April 27, 1968, and she survives.
Other survivors include his son, Michael Van Dao of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Vinh T. Dao of Costa Mesa, California and Tuan Anh Dao of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and four nieces and nephews.
Hoa was preceded in death by his parents.
He graduated with honors in 1975 from the University of Texas-El Paso with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Hoa was a Certified Public Accountant for El Paso Electric Company for 28 years, where he was the manager of internal audits, retiring in 2003.
He enjoyed reading, gardening, grocery shopping and cooking.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
