Joseph R. Karns, 94, of Akron, Ohio passed away Monday, July 26, 2010 at Pebble Creek Nursing Home in Akron.
Born April 4, 1916, in Mentone, Indiana, he was the son of Cliffton and Flossie (Jefferies) Karns. He married Esther A. Shaw on October 27, 1946, and she preceded him in death on April 18, 1990.
Survivors include his son, Walter Karns of Akron; daughter-in-law, Jeannette Karns of Waldron; half-brother, John Coplen of South Bend; half-sister, Ann Cooper of Keystone Heights, Florida; grandsons, Brian (wife, Xeng) Karns, Preston Karns, Kevin Karns and Allen (wife, Brooke) Karns; great-grandchildren, Emily Karns, Wyatt Karns and Codi Rasor; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; half-brother, Sam Coplen and grandson, Clayton Karns.
M. Karns was a farmer.
He wa a U.S.Army veteran serving during World War II.
Mr. Karns was a member of the American Legion Post No. 102 in Morristown, Veterans of Foreign wars and Freeport United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Campbell officiating.
Burial will be in Concord Cemetery, Shelby County.
