Joseph W. Rady

Joseph W. Rady, 73, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005. Born Sept. 5, 1932, in Crawfordsville, he was the son of Carl T. and Leela (Wilson) Rady. He married Betty J. Rash on Aug. 12, 1955, and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Melody (husband, Paul) Barnard and Mary (husband, Scott) Brattain, both of Shelbyville; one son, Mickey Rady of Shelbyville; one brother, Fred Rady of Danville; one sister, Ethel Rainey of Shelbyville; six grandchildren, Ashley Barnard, Brandon Newell, Justin Barnard, Jordan Barnard, Christopher Newell and Jake Brattain; one great-grandchild, Hayden Newell; and family friend, Carol Newell of Shelbyville. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jim Rady, Kenny Rady and Luke Rady; one sister, Edna Osborne; and parents-in-law, The Rev. Robert N. and Mary Ada Simpson. Mr. Rady had owned a bed and breakfast in Metamora and The Wedding Garden, in Shelby County. He previously had owned a trucking company. He graduated from Roachdale High School and Indiana Central Business College. Mr. Rady had donated his horse and carriage and limousine services to Shelby County throughout the years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Rady was a member of Metamora Merchants Association and former member of Local Union 716. He attended Edinburgh Church of God for several years. He loved his family, friends and horses. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Todd A. Stocklin, Robert Simpson and Howard Whitecotton officiating. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, in Shelby County, with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joe Rady Foundation, in care of Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Chapels, 819 S. Harrison St.
