Josephine L. Alexander

Josephine L. Alexander, 98, of Fairland passed away Monday, February 18, 2019 at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville. She was born November 9, 1920, in Moral Township, Shelby County, Indiana, the daughter of George and Mabel (Curry) Borden. On November 27, 1939, she married Otis M. Alexander, and he preceded her in death on September 27, 2008. Josephine is survived by sons, Bob Alexander, Jim Alexander and wife, Janette, both of Shelbyville and Maurice Alexander and wife, Debra, of Fairland; daughter, Becky Treon of Shelbyville; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to Otis, Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; foster parents, Roy and Emma Smith; sons, Ronald Lee “Ronnie” Alexander and Teddy Ray Alexander; infant daughter, Beverly Jo Alexander; sisters, Frances, Lola Mary and Georgia Darlene; and brother, Merritt Borden; and two great-granddaughters. Josephine graduated from Moral Township High School in 1938 and attended Indiana Business College. She also attended Fenns Community Church. Josephine was a farmwife. She retired from GE/Wellman in 1982, with over 25 years of service. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2019 at the funeral home, with Rev. Ed Mohr officiating. Interment will be at Fairland Cemetery in Fairland.
