Julia C. “Judy” Runnebohm, 79, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
She was born September 27, 1936, in East St. Louis, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas C. and Nell M. (Morris) Jenkins. On June 11, 1960, she married Michael J. Davitt, and he preceded her in death on September 11, 1965. Judy married Nick Runnebohm on September 30, 1967, and he survives.
Judy is also survived by her son, Michael J. “Mike” Runnebohm of Shelbyville; daughters, Kathleen M. “Kathy” Johnson, Cynthia A. “Cindy” Whitten and husband, Brett, and Susan T. “Susie” Brown, all of Shelbyville; and grandchildren, Dustin Johnson, Reanna Brown, Shane Brown, Colleen Davis, Brendan Brown, Garrett Davis and Gage Whitten.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Judy graduated from High School in Mount Clemens, Michigan in 1954.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where she was active in the St. Vincent Altar Society.
She was awarded a Distinguished Hoosier Award in 2013 by Governor Mike Pence. This award is one of the highest honors given by the State of Indiana. Judy received two awards from the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce; in 2000, she was awarded Citizen of the Year, and in 2014, she received the Athena Award.
Judy formerly served on the Board of Directors of SCUFFY, Shelby County Welfare and Girls, Inc.
She was very active in the Associated Builders and Contractor of Indiana Auxiliary and the Shelby County Republican Central Committee, where she formerly served as secretary. She was formerly a member of Daughters of Isabella.
Judy volunteered for the Major Hospital Foundation and spent many afternoons calling shut-ins.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with the rosary recited at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4218 E. Michigan Road in Shelbyville, with Father Paul Landwerlen officiating.
Interment will be at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville.
