Julia Karlene Sebert English, 107, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Ashford Place Health Campus.
Born February 19, 1900, in Camden, Ohio, she was the daughter of August and Annie Laurie (Robinson) Sebert. She married Hugh B. English on April 24, 1924, in Chattanooga, Tenn. and he preceded her in death on December 28, 1989.
Survivors include her son, William A. (wife, Carolyn) English of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Liz (husband, David)Wheeler of Shelbyville, Julie (husband, Tom) McCarthy of Fort Worth, Texas, William P. (wife, Kim) English of Richmond, John (wife, Ying) Wehrenberg of Shanghai, China, and Susan Wehrenberg of Chicago, Ill.
She also was preceded indeath by her parents, two daughters, two sisters and one brother.
Mrs. English had lived in Camden; Chicago, Chattanooga; Philadelphia, Pa; Woodstock, Ontario, Canada; Rutherford, N.J.; Teaneck, N.J.; and Shelbyville.
She tinted portraits for her brother-in-law who had portrait studios in Chicago and Chattanooga.
Mrs. English graduated in 1918 from Camden High School in Camden.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 65 years, where she had served as a deacon and elder. She was a past president of Tri Kappa, Sigma Lambda Chi and PEO, where she was a 50-year member. She also was a member of the Shelbyville Ladies Golf Association.
Mrs. English loved to play golf, playing the last time at the age of 91 and still pulling her own cart. She also loved to play bridge, sew, cook, care for grandchildren and sing, which she did for years in the church choir.
A celebration of life will be at the First Presbyterian Church, 124 W. Broadway Street, Shelbyville, Indiana on Sunday, August 12, 2007 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Garard Kuyk officiating.
Private graveside rites will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
