For nearly forty years Katherine Oneida Fisher DePrez was a respected local REALTOR. After graduating from Shelbyville High School, she enlivened an office, then became Deputy Shelby County Clerk and acting Clerk when her husband Morris, the Clerk, joined the Navy in WWII.
Post-war Katherine excelled being a dedicated, superior homemaker. She and Morris, who predeceased her, nurtured son Paul A. DePrez and daughter Susan D. Cortelyou. Katherine was a wonderful, caring, and loving mother whose compassion for others touched the lives of many.
Katherine was one of two pioneering female real estate Brokers in Shelby County, opening her own agency. Subsequently she joined Century 21 Boyd and Thurston REALTORS. In later years she was associated with Grigsby REALTORS. Katherine was past president of the Shelby County Association of REALTORS and a two-time recipient of its REALTOR of the Year award. She served on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Association of REALTORS.
Throughout her life, Katherine continued active in many civic affairs, including Psi Iota Xi Sorority; Current Topic Club; Shelby County Historical Society; Naamah Chapter #73, Order of the Eastern Star; BPW; American Legion Auxiliary; and First Presbyterian Church. Always a loyal supporter of the Democratic Party, she repeatedly worked to elect candidates on all governmental levels.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Street, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shelby County Historical Society or SCUFFY.
