Kathleen A. Bagley

Kathleen A. "Katie" (Oates) Sanders Bagley, 87, of Shelbyville died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Ashford Place Health Campus. Born Dec. 13, 1922, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of Holland V. and Katherine (Hefferin) Oates. She married Russell J. Sanders Jr. in 1941, and he preceded her in death in 1969. She married J. William "Bill" Bagley on June 16, 1973, and he survives. Other survivors include her sons, Vincent (wife, Sue) Sanders of Greenfield, Russ (wife, June) Sanders of Shelbyville and Scott (wife, Teresia) Sanders of Indianapolis; daughters, Margaret (husband, Sam) Tedrowe of Indianapolis, Nancy (husband, Mark) McNeely of Shelbyville, Kathie (husband, Mike) Scherrer of Fishers and Mary (husband, Richard) Harris of Avon; daughter-in-law, Sara (husband, Ed) Moody of Shelbyville; brother, Holland "Dutch" Oates of Appleton, Wis.; 24 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Edward "Jim" Sanders; brother, James Oates; and sister, Eileen Cory. Mrs. Bagley was employed at John Hancock Insurance Co. in Indianapolis for 24 years, retiring in 1984. She graduated from Shortridge High School in 1940 and from Indiana Business College. Mrs. Bagley was a member of St. Joan of Arc, St. Monica and St. Joseph Catholic churches and continuously volunteered her time for various Catholic charities. She loved birds and playing bridge and was an Indianapolis Indians fan. She was a loving and doting mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was strong and peaceful to the end. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., with Father Chris Craig officiating. Interment will be in Summit Lawn in Westfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Edmundite Missions, 1428 Broad St., Selma, AL 36701; or St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
