Kathryn L. Franklin

Kathryn L. Franklin, 98, of Shelbyville, a former resident of Muncie, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville. She was born March 8, 1916, to Burley and Amy (Holder) Jordan, in Flat Rock. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dale Mitchell (1944) and Herb Franklin (2003); sister, Prudence; and her daughter, Phyllis. Kathryn is survived by her children, Gayle Owens, Ron Mitchell and John Franklin and their families which include 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren. She retired from Indiana Bell Telephone Company in 1971, after 22 years of service. Kathryn cherished her precious family and dear friends and enjoyed bridge and watching the Colts and Pacer ballgames. She was a member of and formerly attended College Avenue United Methodist Church in Muncie. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, June 27, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with visitation at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice of charity.
