Katie Lynnae Ernstes, 16, of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born March 30, 1990, in Landstuhl, Germany, she was the daughter of Ben and Theresa (Cavaness) Ernstes.
Survivors include her parents of Shelbyville; one brother, Trey Ernstes of Shelbyville; and her grandparents, William Cavaness and Joy Ernstes, both of Shelbyville, and Rita Cavaness of Greensburg.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Alfred B. Ernstes Sr.
Katie was a junior at Shelbyville High School. During her sophomore year, she was one of three managers for the SHS varsity basketball team, which finished the season undefeated.
She was employed at Thomas Gymnastics and had been a lifeguard at Meridian Park Family Aquatic Center.
Katie was 1 year old when her family moved from Germany to Shelbyville.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was an assistant Sunday school teacher. She was a volunteer worker at Ashford Place Health Campus and worked in the guidance office at school.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Carmony-Ewing Broadway Chapel, Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 232 W. Broadway St.
Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., with the Rev. Don A. Quinn officiating.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
